Live Life Fully
“What would you like to accomplish with me?” This is one of my first questions in meeting with a new client.
People want solutions to problems. I help clients find solutions, and then implement them. I am a professional resource, coach, consultant, support, and ally. Do you have something causing you unhappiness or preventing you from living life as fully as you were meant to? I will help you to achieve your goals by removing the obstacles keeping you from your joy and contentment.
As a licensed clinical psychologist, my independent practice is dedicated to providing compassionate and effective service grounded in current research and practice models.
I am trained in cognitive-behavioral psychology and couples therapy. Based on your goals and needs, I will address biological, family/relational, cognitive, and emotional factors in a holistic approach. I often get feedback from clients that they appreciate not only my warmth, which puts them at ease, but also my readiness to give direction and advise.
I tailor my work with each client to his or her unique needs, interests and values. I strive to ensure that my clients first and foremost feel respected, understood in what they are seeking, appreciated for their strengths and comfortable in our collaborative efforts toward their goals. As a clinical psychologist, I draw upon a diverse set of models and the latest research findings to offer clients the highest quality service.
About Me
A native of Atlantic Beach, Florida, I received my PhD from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill in 1981 and was awarded the most Outstanding Doctoral Candidate in Clinical Psychology. The cognitive-behavioral approach was fairly new and I published my research on a cognitive model of depression.
Because of my strong interest in the importance of marriage and family relationships for well-being, I pursued a post-doctoral Fellowship in Family Therapy at the Texas Research Institute of Mental Sciences in Houston. This institution and its affiliates were pioneers in the burgeoning field of strategic and systemic family therapy.
I went on from there to conduct research on family relationships and their impact on emotional well-being and health and to teach marital therapy at the University of Texas at Austin. My articles on depression, intergenerational family relationships and health have appeared in the Journal of Abnormal Psychology, Journal of Family Psychology, and Psychotherapy: Theory, Research and Practice. Continuing education throughout the career of a therapist is essential and required by law. You can find out about the interests and preparation of therapists by asking what ongoing training they have received. To learn about some of my Continuing Education, click here.
Areas of Specialization
Marital therapy and couples counseling have been a focus of my training, research, teaching and practice for my entire career. People of all ages thrive within healthy and happy relationships. I am well-versed in John Gottman’s research and approach, having received his Level 1 training. In addition, I attended a three-day training by John and Julie Gottman: “Treating affairs and trauma: Helping couples heal and rebuild trust.” I am trained in PAIRS (Practical Application of Intimate Relationship Skills) and PREP (divorce Prevention and Relationship Enhancement Program). It is a joy for me to work with couples as they develop their strengths and enhance enjoyment of their relationships.
Adequate, quality sleep is immensely important to optimize immunity, cognitive functioning, energy and mood–all essential for living life well. I practice CBT-I, Cognitive Behavioral Therapy for Insomnia, an effective way to improve your sleep without drugs.
I also specialize in:
Marital Therapy and Couples Counseling
Premarital Counseling
Treatment of Anxiety Disorders
Life Coaching
Psychotherapy for Adults
Issues Related to Separation and Divorce
Remarriage and Step-families

Let’s get started! Just give me a call and we will set up an appointment. I see clients in person and via tele-therapy.

When we make your appointment, you can give me an email address to which I can send you a link to complete paperwork on line. Or, you can complete the paperwork when you arrive at the office. It will be waiting in a clipboard in a rack in the waiting room.
Hours
Monday through Friday: 8AM to 5PM
Therapy Sessions
Appointments are made for 60 minutes. In our initial meeting, I will learn about your concerns and the goals you wish to accomplish. I will also gather relevant background information. On that basis, we will develop our action plan.
Follow up sessions usually begin with assessing progress, discussion of problems encountered or new concerns, and, often follow-through with new suggestions or assignments.
Your satisfaction with addressing your concerns and with the accomplishment of your goals is our continuing pursuit.
Who Attends Therapy Sessions?
I meet with individuals, couples and families, depending upon clients, preferences and what needs to be accomplished. Usually, but not always, I begin couples therapy with a joint meeting.
Payment
I will file your insurance claim for you. While you are responsible for the full fee, you will be asked to pay your deductible and co-payment. Your insurance card should have an 800-number you can call to determine whether your policy covers my services and to what level.
